GACHI Japanese is a small app for practising casual Japanese, run by one person. This page explains what the app stores, why it stores it, and how to get rid of it. It covers both the iPhone app and the web version.
The short version
- The app stores your account and the Japanese you write in it. That's the whole list.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking — across this app or any other.
- Nothing is sold, rented, or shared with advertisers.
- You can delete your account, and everything in it, from inside the app.
What the app stores
Your account. When you sign in with Apple or Google, the app receives an identifier that Apple or Google issues for this app alone, plus your name and email address if you share them. Apple may hand over a private relay address instead of your real one — the app works either way. On the web version an account is a name and a passcode instead.
What you write. The daily question you were shown, the answer you wrote, the feedback generated for it, and the date. This is your log — it is the point of the app.
Nothing else. No advertising identifier, no location, no contacts, no photos, no analytics or crash-reporting SDK, no third-party trackers. The app does not follow you across other apps or websites.
How it is used
- To choose your daily question and write the feedback on your answer.
- To show your own history, streak, and medals.
- To keep you signed in.
- To send you a daily reminder email, if the app has an email address for you.
What you write is never used to generate anyone else's questions.
Who else handles it
The app runs on services that necessarily see this data:
- Vercel
- Hosts the app and its API.
- Neon
- The database where accounts and logs are kept.
- Anthropic (Claude)
- Writes the question and the feedback. Your answer and the question are sent for that purpose. Anthropic's API terms state that content sent through the API is not used to train their models.
- Apple / Google
- Sign-in only. They confirm to the app that the sign-in succeeded; the app does not get access to anything else in your Apple or Google account.
- Gmail
- Delivers the daily reminder email, when one is sent.
Your data is not sold, rented, or handed to advertisers or data brokers.
Reminders
On iPhone, the daily reminder is a local notification: the time you pick is stored on your phone and the notification is scheduled by iOS. It does not leave the device.
Reminder emails are sent by the server, and only to an account that has an email address on it. They stop when you delete your account. If you would rather not get them at all, email akfgbunprad@gmail.com and the address will be cleared from your account.
Keeping and deleting
Your log stays until you delete it. In the app: Settings → Delete account. It asks you to confirm twice, then removes your account together with every entry attached to it. This cannot be undone.
On the web version, or if you would rather someone did it by hand, email akfgbunprad@gmail.com from the address on your account.
Security
All traffic is over HTTPS. On iPhone your sign-in token is stored in the iOS Keychain rather than in ordinary app storage, so it is not readable by someone with the unlocked phone in hand. Database access is limited to the app's own server.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it.
